Ghastly news from the nation’s capital Abuja after a car accident kills three and injures two.
Three people lost their lives while two others were seriously injured after a vehicle plunged off a bridge into a river and crashed in Ushafa, on the Dutse-Bwari expressway in Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the latest reports, a Toyota Carina 2 car with the registration number AE 233 YLA, which was carrying five passengers, suddenly crashed into the bridge.
An eyewitness said the driver, who was driving at the maximum possible speed while approaching the bridge, lost control and veered off the road and plunged into the river.
The eyewitness said that three people died on the spot as they were trapped in the car which was damaged beyond repair.
The two other passengers managed to escape the wreck.
Similarly, an articulated truck was also involved in an accident on the same day while making a u-turn on the Dutse-Bupma road in the same area.
The driver of the truck reportedly rammed into a ditch after it lost control, leaving two people injured.
Confirming both accidents, the unit commander of the federal road safety corps in Dutse, Henry Igwe, said three people died in the car that plunged into the river, adding that the injured were rescued through the combined efforts of his men and other security operatives.
He said the injured in both crashes were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and they have since been discharged.
